Yep! You guessed it! We got ENGAGED!

Holy shit. That’s pretty much all I’ve been thinking for the past several weeks after our return home from the Dominican Republic. I should put things in a bit of context for you before I jump right into things.

We love to travel and have been going to various parts of Mexico for the past several years. While both Patrick and I LOVE Mexico, we have always wondered what it’d be like to step outside of the box. The Dominican is a little more expensive in terms of airline tickets than Mexico is, but we were granted the opportunity by my parents to have a majority of our flights paid for by them in order to go! We have a membership through Royal Holiday so we are able to travel throughout Mexico and the Carribean for a much-discounted price. It has been so wonderful!

Usually, we go to Cozumel, MX and stay at the Park Royal there. It is one of my favorite places in the entire world and the staff is so accommodating. They don’t have a Park Royal in the Dominican, so we ended up staying at the Bavaro Princess. It is one of the most beautiful places in the world, and Bavaro is one of the top 10 beaches in the world as well. Check out that article here.

After a nightmare of a day traveling, myself and Patrick’s family were finally able to reconnect at the airport and we were ready to spend our first day in paradise! We spent most of our days eating, drinking, and lounging around on the beach. What else do you do on vacation, right?

On Tuesday, April 9th..

We woke up fairly early to go walk on the beach and get some fresh air. Patrick was way more wound up than usual. I attributed that to the cup of coffee he had shortly after getting up. We walked on the beach and slowly made our way to the dome where people get married. I was completely oblivious to what was about to happen.

Patrick asked if I would like another birthday present. I forgot to mention that was the reason for this whole trip. I am going to turn 30 this year and we thought, what better way to celebrate! He ended up pulling out a HUGE diamond ring and asked if I’d spend the rest of my life with him. Of course, I dissolved into tears and just kept repeating, “Are you serious?!” without actually agreeing. But, we were officially engaged. The ring didn’t quite fit at the time, so I wore it on my pinky like I was a mob boss the rest of the time.

Where There Is Love, There Is Life

Never in a million years did I ever think someone would want to marry me. About 5 years ago, I had given up on that ever being possible for me. I was a wreck then. I had emotional baggage coupled with an inability to cope with anything. But every now and then, things happen that shake you up inside. It turns your life upside down and sends you on a completely foreign path. Patrick has watched me grow into the person I am today. He has been a large part of shaping my life. We met when I was 19. When all of us have everything figured out. Then realize we were sorely mistaken.

I wish I could put into words how I feel today. I feel a love so deep for him, it reaches way past any other emotions I could ever imagine. There’s a need to care for someone every day and ensure their well-being. Every time I look at him, I am looking at an eternity. He is my very best friend. And soon, we will get to take the next big step into becoming family. There is something there that is unconditional. I don’t know if the word love can accurately describe it. It goes so much deeper than that.

I am beyond happy that I get to start this new chapter of my life with someone who is truly my other half. I hope everyone can find someone like that in their life. They’re out there, and they will come when you least expect them to.
